Standing Rigging

Post by Symystic »

I pulled my mast almost a year ago at the start of a refit. I carefully measured the old wire, and then recycled it. I'm ready to prepare the mast to go back in, I discovered I lost one piece of paper with the shroud lengths. Does anyone have these written down and willing to share?
The mast is on saw horses so I will make a mockup and take the lenghts. Having some to compare to would be wonderful. The total lenght of the top and both lowers is what I need. That way I can compensate for the turnbuckles. I'm in Malayisa and had the new wire shipped in from the states, so I can't just run get more. Thanks in advance. mark

Below is a description from another Ballad owner (in swedish unfortunately) who has done a similar job. Please note that the measured endpoints are not cc-measures.

Thank you for the reply, I don't read that language and my efforts at translation are fruitless. mark

For those of you who are interested, I now have the measurements. You have to measure
from the bearing surface of one end piece to the bearing surface of the other, thus
not center to center for then it will be wrong.

The top shrouds is 10,390 m, this is original with 7/16 turnbuckle.
With 1/2 inch turnbuckle the measurement becomes 10,355 m.

The lower shrouds shall be 5,665 with 7/16 and 5,630 with 1/2 inch.

The fore-shroud is 11,266 with 7/16 and 11,231 with 1/2 inch.

The back-shroud of my ballad is 10.022 with 1/2 inch it becomes 10,266
with 7/16.

Since the rods are 11mm in the hole, they must be drilled up to 13mm, there are plenty of goods.

Hope it helps someone who is thinking about taking the step to a stronger rig.

Thank you for translating, that helps. If someone else has the measurements I would like to compare.

Are there any differences between your figures and the ones from no 13?

I never thought to compare. I had taken center to center measurements, was not clear on where the ( 13 ) measurements were taken . Boat is back in the water and I am glad. I did manage to miss the forestay length. Fortunately I could shorten in place with the Stay Loc fittings. Nice to know the rig should stay where it's supposed to.
