Garmin GPS 128 has lost the memory - here is how to fix it

Post by Torbennoer »

Your old trusted Garmin GPS 128 has suddenly reset itself with the loss of all the stored data as a result.
This is extremely annoying, but not a reason to throw the GPS in the bin!

The GPS has a little internal Lithium battery soldered to the circuit board which is used to keep the memory running. This battery is probably dead and needs replacement.
As the original battery is no longer available the attached guideline shows a smooth - and cheap - work around.

Good luck!

Hi Torben,
Good tip, but I could not locate the attachment. :(
Another problem I had with a Garmin GPS 76 is when it no longer worked, just showed a line across the screen. It turns out that the WAAS programing was changed, and all you need to do is turn off the WAAS feature in the settings and the unit will work again, although with slightly less accuracy.
