Just had the fuel injector pump rebuilt when reinstalling should I...

Post by gabriel.donnelly »

We first noticed some diesel in the bilge, We removed the engine cover and sure enough there was a steady stream coming from the front of the pump housing... a $550 bill btw :o ... My question, when reinstalling, should I do the fuel filter as well? Anything else? I mean this is the time to do it, it's not unbearably hot this time of year, it could almost pass for winter.

Thanks.

Not sure if your engine is self bleeding, but whenever I work on the fuel system I've always replaced any filters, seals, etc which require the system to be bled after replacement. Yes, I'd change the filters.

Thanks. Yeah that's my plan of attack, and its a Volvo MD7a from the late 70's, I'm sure its not self bleeding, nothing's easy with her.

Just had mine rebuilt, tech at shop told me to be sure to fill it with fuel before install. Without fuel the pump has no lubricant. Motor runs great.
