Re: Lifting and removing the engine
I like the gantry idea. You could make it wide enough to slide the raised motor clear of the boat to lower it to the ground. A track would be nice, maybe even an electric hoist . That would make re-installation easier too. Having the remote on the hoist would make it a one person job, and I'm sure y...

Re: Forward chainplate above head sawn-off, problems?
Ah ... OK ... I thought you'd chopped the straps going down the bulkhead ... my bad! I looked at your photo again and see that you "trimmed" the vertical sides of the truss. You could weld the pieces back in, which would probably be best. Below is a pic of my mock-up tank that shows the tr...

Re: Forward chainplate above head sawn-off, problems?
I think you have made a mistake shortening the chain plate. When I built my holding tank I made it of a shape to leave the chain plates exposed so they could be tightened if needed as the bulkhead wood tends to crush a bit with age. You could fabricate two triangular plates to go over the existing s...

Re: Inner forestay deck attachment and support.
Nice tidy job on the install, Nic. I especially like the way you've anchored it to the anchor locker bulkhead tabs. It's very neat and relatively non-intrusive to the V-berth, and the strut appears to be in line with the extension of the inner fore stay, giving it a nice straight pull. Just a note o...

Re: Water Tank
You might want to check with Vega Marin as they have some replacement parts. I'm pretty sure, but not absolutely certain, that the Albin Vega water tank is the same as the Ballad's.

Re: Mast Refit (part 3)
Awesome job, Nic. Thanks for the detailed info and great pictures. I have a set of aluminum mast steps right at the top, and use a MasteMate to get up there, which is a satisfactory arrangement for the type of sailing I do. The aluminum steps, over time, become a little hard to unfold, but nothing t...

Re: Florida Ballad
Hi Mark T,
I used an indoor/outdoor carpet cut to fit and glued in. This is the third boat I've done this way and it works for me here in the Pacific North 'Wet'.
It gives a nice clean finish, and is mildew resistant.

Re: Florida Ballad
Hi Mark,
Welcome to the forum. I did a 2 year restoration on mine (#1085) and launched in late 2013. I've been enjoying her ever since. Love the boat, and the way she sails. Good luck on your rebuild.
Cheers,

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(
I think you’re on the right track. IMHO I'd choose a thickened epoxy paste squeezed or injected into the crack.
Just my thoughts ... keep us posted on how it goes.
