Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Hello Bob, Cracking post, thanks for sharing. Our Ballad is #50, so based on your experience, I have some concern about my mast step - it appears solid, no rusty water, movement, cracking or sagging or anything like that, what made you suspect yours? Any suggestions for how to test it with an endosc...

Re: What kind of plywood? (interior restoration)

Hello Mads, Congratulations on your purchase!! The Ballad is a fine choice, Triola (number 50) has never let me down and we have been through some very challenging conditions indeed. We use Robbins Timber in the UK, and for the visible parts of the interior, where the plywood is structural, we use 1...

Re: photos

Hello Sula, You can use a program like http://www.irfanview.com/ to batch optimize the photos, or, alternatively, post them somewhere else and link to it here like Bannath does (https://plus.google.com/photos/106093980307831444049/albums/5654287727260079201). I'm very interested to see them though, ...

Re: Rebuilding rudder and hatch lids

Did you add more flanges to the stock in the end Bob? Did you reuse the current stock or replace it entirely? What did you do to prevent the rudder jamming against the skeg (mine suffers from this too)? :D Looks like a cracking job, one I must tackle as my rudder is full of water (spends a good hour...

Re: Bulkhead & Construction

Thanks Bob, that's a cracking explanation (no pun intended), and shows that #104 could have been saved if the problem had been identified and addressed. I'll have a look at my bulkheads to see if there are any signs of the bulkheads bolts coming loose and add it to my list of jobs to strengthen them...

Bulkhead & Construction

Hello all, I read the below on an old post on YBW: "I am the ex-owner of Ballad Hull No. 104. She fell apart in the 2001 Fastnet Race. Albin had a very strange method of attaching the bulkheads. Nearly all builders use a top hat section and glass the ply bulkhead in. Albin used a GRP web and bo...

Sales documents etc

Hello all, I'm trying to pull together all of the information and documentation about the Ballad that has been published over the years to make sure it is kept safe and doesn't disappear (Floridaboats.net had some great sales brochures, but the site has since shut down!). I'm compiling any informati...
