Outboard Motor Hoist

I've just added a small inflatable with 2.6 hp outboard motor to Pagan to replace my old dinghy. Looking for ways to hoist the 17Kg motor in and out of the boat, I came across Swing Lift , and wonder if I could use my Ballad transom-mounted boarding ladder to do the same thing. Has anyone on the for...

Boomkicker

I thinking of ditching my topping lift for a Boomkicker (http://boomkicker.com/). Has anyone had experience with this unit on a Ballad, and if so which model did you choose?

Thanks.
Peter

Re: Hull 612, built in 1974

Thanks Bob, very informative write-up, and good to know I made the right choice back in 2011 ... definitely a case of following my heart instead of my head. :D

Re: Hull 612, built in 1974

I too looked at the Scampi 30, but preferred the Ballad for various reasons. The Ballad was made by Albin Marin, Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballad_30 According to Wikipedia the Scampi was made by various different yards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scampi_30 Pictures below from Sailbo...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Sailnumber 1069. I think the build is in 1976. Regards Jens Chr Mine is #1085, and I was told it was also a 1976 model. I'll rest easy now that I know what a truss of that vintage looks like. I check the shroud tension periodically with a Loos Gauge. Loose shrouds would be a good warning flag of a ...

Re: Beaching Legs

Hi Arjuna, Sorry for the late reply. I have not yet made any legs for the Ballad, and put that project on the shelf for now. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has built a set. A nice set of " Yacht Legs " would be nice, but a bit too pricey for me. Hi Wolfee101, Nice picture of ...

Re: Hull bulging and cracking under main bulkhead

Mine is a 1976, hull 1085, not one with the suspect mast steps so yours probably isn't either. The only other thing I can think of is if the boat sat on it's keel (on land) for an extended period of time, and that the bulkhead-to-boat rib bolts are either loose or the holes very worn... something to...

Re: Hull bulging and cracking under main bulkhead

Hi, Is it an early model Ballad? You may have mast step issues as outlined in this post.
Peter.

Re: Ballad build numbers by year

Welcome to the forum. My Ballad is number 1085, and I believe it's a 1976 model, no mast step issues as determined by drilling a few small holes and using a bore scope such as this one to examine the area. I'd be a bit wary of a seller that discourages further inspection. If you get serious about th...
