New vinyl liner

It's time to replace the old foam-backed vinyl liner. I have noticed that some just paint the inside of the hull but we really need some kind of isolation - the summer season in Scandinavia is short so we sail even when it's cold and use the heater.

We are looking at something like below - 3mm thick vinyl. Shouldn't be that hard to glue in place once I've pealed off the old foam and glue residue.

I plan on using the exact same foam-backed vinyl liner although it is a bit expensive (180 DKK pr meter in Denmark). The price is roughly the same in the UK. How expensive is it in Sweden?

I'm considering using a combination of a cheap 6 mm closed cell foam mat (http://jysk.dk/udendors/luftmadrasser/l ... rlag-h06cm) and the foam-backed vinyl on top. I recently had the chance to have a quick chat with a really nice guy (http://www.blue-bird.dk) that spent a winter living in his Ballad in Copenhagen. He used the above combination and had no issues with condensation during the winter. I would love to be able to go sailing in the winter

Vinyl with no backing is going to show all the irregularities in the hull insides. Foam (like the original) would be better as the foam gives a bit of padding for any "nibs" in the fiberglass and some insulation value. Putting the closed cell foam mat on the hull first sounds like a good idea. There is a foil covered type called "Reflectix" that seems to be available worldwide.

The only place I have experienced condensation (in my very brief history of Ballad ownership) is along the edges of the hull/deck joint area, specifically where the deck core ends and changes to a simple glass layer where it joins the hull. This only happens in freezing temperatures or when there is snow on the decks.

In 20-20 hindsight I should have run the indoor/outdoor carpet past the hull sides and up under this uninsulated part of the deck underside. Slits would have to be made at every bolt, but don't show because of the wood valence. I may do some more work there yet. Meanwhile i just wipe it down occasionally.
No condensation occurs in any of the carpet covered areas.

I'll be interested to see what you guys do and how you do it!

That should give good insulation. The original liner was extended underneath the bulkheads - how do you plan to fit the foam mat?

I found a similar product with 5mm foam backing and 1.2mm vinyl. Costs about 25€/meter. Maybe this will do the trick?
