I'm out making the waters surrounding Denmark a little less safe - being a newbie and all. Haven't caused any damage yet but there is still 6 weeks left of my 2014 summer cruise
I plan on uploading some small videos to help me remember how it felt to go sailing on my own for the first time.
Video #1 (First day - had some frinds come along): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pagZNBp_i2Y
Video #2 (My first time through a lock): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwWysP6kKUI
Video #3 (Second day - first day alone): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zsc3jqranY
All future videos will be uploaded to youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/madsdahlke/videos

Mads,
Try adjusting the "gain" and the "sea state" on the tiller pilot. They adjust the amount and speed of it's reaction in different seas. If the adjustments are too "tight" the poor thing will saw itself to death trying to steer a perfect course!
Great videos! Looks like you're enjoying the ride. We're headed out Wednesday for a few weeks

I'll be sure to try and adjust both "gain" tomorrow and "sea state" the next time I' encounter semi large waves. Sounds like both are may need to be adjusted from time to time. Do you have any experience with how often it is necessary to adjust one or both?
Where are you guys heading? I would absolutely love to cruise the west coast of both Canada and the US at some point in the future. If you wouldn't mind posting some pictures I would love to see them

Also worth noting, most tiller pilots are hyper-active when first turned on; they tend to settle down after 30 minutes or so, once they figure out the best steering algorithms.
Wish I could view your movies, Mads. Our internet connection is garbage. Soon it may get better.

We headed across to the US San Juan Islands for a few days. Tomorrow we head north towards an Albin Vega Owners Rendezvous in the Canadian Gulf Islands. Although most of us have other boats now we still get together every year under the Vega flag. Then it's across to the big city (Vancouver) to attend a friends citizenship ceremony, and from there ... who knows! Will post pictures when we get home.dahlke wrote:...
