Re: Reusing the old bulkheads - holes doesn't match. What to

I had the same problem, as I faithfully copied the old hole locations to the new bulkheads. Fiddling around with an old bulkhead I noticed the cabin roof had settled abot 30mm so I did what you did: haul out a jack, lift the cabin top (gently) and put a flat piece of plywood under the cabin top, hel...

Mounting a Bruce anchor

I'm looking for a tidy way to mount my 10kg Bruce anchor on the bow without it flopping around. I don't want to add a bowsprit, just keep it as simple as possible. On my Vega there was a Windline BRM4 that was perfect: self launching and made for the Bruce 10kg. But it's about 1/2" too wide to ...

Re: Down by the bow

I too noticed my recently launched Ballad is bow-down. Shifting some of the weight of items stored in the V-berth corrected the problem. My boat also has had an engine replacement (Yanmar 2GMF) which is lighter than the original Volvo. During restoration i moved my batteries (2 group 24 AGM's) to un...

Re: Garmin GPS 128 has lost the memory - here is how to fix

Hi Torben, Good tip, but I could not locate the attachment. :( Another problem I had with a Garmin GPS 76 is when it no longer worked, just showed a line across the screen. It turns out that the WAAS programing was changed, and all you need to do is turn off the WAAS feature in the settings and the ...

Re: #1085 Ongoing Restoration Pictures

The sails are in usable shape. I have a nice reefable 110 jib with a high clew which I sailed home with. There're also 150 and 135 Genoas, a storm trisail, and a spinnaker. I'm going to install a furler in the future ... Harken or Furlex, with a slight preference for the Furlex. A full batten loose ...

Re: #1085 Ongoing Restoration Pictures

I used 15 sheets to start with. 5 sheets of 18mm Joubert Occume 1088 5 sheets of 9mm, Aqua-tek, a lower grade for berth bottoms and shelves etc. 5 sheets of 9mm, Joubert Occume 1088, a higher grade to match grain and color of the 18mm sheets. I think I bought a couple more sheets later on to make up...

Re: #1085 Ongoing Restoration Pictures

I haven't uploaded any new pictures or blogged lately as launch day is almost here and, well, it's been a bit busy! My dodger (spray hood) cover is almost finished and is the last 'major' item to do ... for now. A successful insurance survey was completed last Wednesday. Bennath will get lifted from...

Re: What kind of plywood? (interior restoration)

I purchased my plywood from a local supplier, West Wind Hardwood . It was all "Joubert" BS 1088 made in France. The 18mm I used for bulkheads retailed for $205 Cdn. and the 9mm was $130 Cdn. Because I bought quite a bit they were kind enough to discount my order. All edges were sealed with...
