Re: Sprayhood!

To digress a little, if I may: The frame pictured here , I think, is a Vega frame whose forward bow has an angular shape. I think (although I've never seen one) both Ballad frames are a smooth bow. :!: I'd love to get the dimensions of an original frame, :!: as mine never made it home with the boat ...

Head Choices

While building my "stitch-and-glue" holding tank I thought I'd better do some head research, as my experiences with Jabsco manual toilets has not been too good. A little research on the 'net seems to indicate Raritan has a good reputation for a reasonably priced toilet and a complete inven...

Re: Cooktop choices

Bob, Not sure what you mean on the seacocks, but here's a rundown: Forward in the head there's a 3/4" thru hull and a 1 1/4" thru hull. (I use a 1 1/4" pipe to 1 1/2" hose elbow on the head outlet, Groco FFC-1250 Aft, at the galley, is a 1" thru hull for the sink drain toget...

Re: Cooktop choices

Hi Bob, I have a 2-burner gimbaled Origo in the Vega, and often we have both burners going. I use the gimbals when cooking while under way. I was going to put the exact same unit in the Ballad, but stumbled across an Origo 6000, new in the box, for a good price at a local swap meet, so ..... (It's a...

Re: More toilet fun

Bob, your idea has merit ... the Pacific Seacraft Dana 24 has a full head on the starboard side of the companionway. Another one that comes to mind is the Shannon 28. The height of the composting toilet has been a road block for me too. The whole head situation is always a compromise. To maintain my...

Thanks Mark.

Re: Question about Mast Light Switch Locations

Thanks Bob. I'll go with that location as it's central to the main wiring and close at hand from the cockpit. I'll seal the edges of the plank across the bridge deck (under the traveller) and put a drip nose on it to help keep everything relatively dry. Maybe a top-hinged plexiglass cover might be a...

Question about Mast Light Switch Locations

Hello all, I'm starting to re-wire the boat and trying to think ahead as much as possible to avoid doing things twice, my usual M.O. With the batteries under the quarter berth, the engine instrument panel in the face of the bridge deck, and dual fuse boards behind the panel at the top of the...

Re: Holding / blackwater tank

I was in contact with Bengt-Åke Fri of VEGA MARIN last February. On their website they were offering a Ballad tank made from stainless steel that fit up behind the head. Here is part of the email reply to my inquiry: "Septic tank is a specially designed tank Ballad and placed behind the toilet....
